THE ARTIST

David George Laccohee Bishop

Born 17-02-1952 Norwich Norfolk

I have always enjoyed drawing but never pursued this interest until about 2004 when I was asked what I would like for Christmas. As requested the family bought me some art equipment thinking it would be a nice hobby for me. Since that moment art has become a passion in my life.

I enrolled as a student with the Cheltenham college in 2005 and thoroughly enjoyed my course with them. I am a member of the SAA (society for all artist).

Although my first love is soft pencil sketching I mainly work with Pastel, Acrylic and Watercolour. I draw my inspiration from the beautiful Norfolk Broads, Coastline and Country Side near my home in the Tas Valley.

My favourite contemporary artists are Alywn Crawshaw and Terry Harrison.

Artist Statement

I believe that art holds the key to understanding the world around us, everytime I put brush to canvas or pencil to paper something wonderful happens I see the world in all its glory as if for the first time. When I stand and gaze at scene which I am about to put to paper my heart is always up lifted. I marvel at what I have been given as an artist for inspiration an entire world of every change beauty.

When I visit galleries at home or around the world I stand and look intently at the works and try to feel what the artist saw when he first decided to put paint to canvas. What was he feeling what was he real saying what influence him in this work.

My greatest wish is to be able to stand total on my own and gaze in rapture at the Mona Lisa and feel what so many have felt before.

I firmly believe that art is for everyone and there is no such thing as a poor or bad painting only ones that have lost their way and need to be given a chance to find their way into our heart. I think art should be excepted for what it is a personal view one witch not always fits my view but never the less has every right to be expressed.

My greatest pleasure is having my 9 year old granddaughter with me on a painting expedition and to watch her paint with pure innocents.
